Have a blessed Friday
Dallas General liability Insurance, Contractors: here we are on Friday, January 16, 2015: now for a lot of people that means weekend end off, for a lot of the small contractors whom are always working; well…at least they need to try and slow down for the weekend and of course it’s time for the home duties to kick into overdrive. No rest for the self employed. That is a story that will be the anthem for most of the rest of the year: Behind and hopefully the same forecast for the rest of the year. That a contractors life. Let’s talk about subcontractors and the responsibility that falls on you (if you are the hiring contractor) as concerns their/your Dallas general liability.
The statement
I don’t have any employees and no responsibilities for the laborers better on the job site. Well Mr. (place your company name here) if you were the person that hired a contractor to do a specific job even though “THEY” may carry their very own liability coverage you could become ultimately responsible if something goes wrong and that same contractor is deemed negligent. In other words it may come down to there is an attorney involved and that law farmed named you in the same lawsuit. The lineage will follow straight to you and there is a possibility that you could ultimately end up paying the price for something that you were not involved in. Yet, your involvement started when a contractor was hired by you (open your company name here) and now there is a problem and someone is going to need to make repairs.
Now it not the time
Now , is not the time to “try and figure it out” because as an example you do not buy insurance for your automobile after you have had an accident – it just does not work that way. Now please understand that there are precautions that you can take that will loan you and your company some protection.
- They need to have had insurance
- You need proof of their insurance
- Did you verify COI?
- Were you named as additional insured?
- Waiver of subrogation?
Now there is a lot of things you can do to help protect your company from fiscal harm. You might consider being sure that the subcontractor that you hire has a certificate of insurance that has been verified that the coverage is in place. You don’t have to it’s just a precaution that you might want to take. Also you might want to consider having you – (enter your company name here) named as an additional insured with a waiver of subrogation. That is a couple of layers of protection may that will help you in case of a claim.
We are not saying bulletproof
Now, nothing is perfect, yet you want to do everything you can to protect yourself from the fiscal ramifications of a negligent act that has resulted in a loss that is in the thousands of dollars. Please, understand this is just the beginning of this type of conversation. We will have a lot of postings considering the different parts of the certificate of insurance.

Now, where were we
Just like a homeowners policy is insurance not a force field, as far as I know there is only been one to walk on water and achieve perfection and the rest of us need to just keep on praying because we live on this same planet practicing in perfection on a daily basis. Now you can call us at your convenience and we can go over some of the information here but here is a dandy idea that I think you will agree with.
Talk to an agent
There was a movie that had a famous line in it from way back in the day – “what we have here is a failure to communicate” – a lot of things move at the speed of the Internet and that is fast real fast yet, how about this – not so fast there Mr. contractor. Make sure that your policy covers what you do and that you are protected in case of a claim. In other words and in the words of the boxing referee – protect yourself at all times.
It’s time
Well, here we are on a Friday morning at 3:18 AM: yes it is time for us to put down the keyboard and get ready for the day business that this Friday will bring.
