How a quote works in the real world
Dallas Contractors General Liability Insurance: we are here today and will be opening our new office in the BIG CITY of Benbrook, Texas on April 17th. We like the big city, small city and all cities in-between here is our Great State of Texas. Thank you for stopping by our small place in cyber space today, we hope that soon we can speak to you in person. Our agency works with the small contractor (meaning someone with the gross sales of three million ($ 3,000,000) or less. That is where we live and most of the contractors fall into that category. Let’s talk about size and Dallas General Liability Insurance.
Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin
We life here in North Texas and have seen the landscape of insurance and General liability in particular change a LOT over the past decade. It was not long ago that we worked with fax machines and talked a lot over the phone with our companies’ that were offering coverage and placed most all of our business
with just one local company and that was an insurance life back in 2000 thru 2005 and things changed. Things changed a lot. Most all of the changes can be contributed to the internet. And things got fast real fast.
The New West
When you submit for a binder in this new world of internet you have not spoken to the under-writer. Yet, let me assure you of this there is an underwriter lurking in front of a computer screen close by and close by can be in California. When a piece of business is applied for through the web portal of the company’s website normally binder goes through. Meaning coverage is bound, meaning that the company applying for Dallas general liability insurance now has coverage. The difference between 10 and 12 years ago in right now is a thing that you are familiar with – is called a website.
Web Site
Around half of the contractors are speak to in today’s cyber America and that person/the company has a website and interestingly enough more times than not a lot of things are on said website. Let’s in our make-believe story here say that we have talk to an electrician and the electrician has been the master electrician for five years and works with himself and the labor cost of 100,000….. Enter the dreaded website, because on the website it looks like the same company does
- Flooring
- Concrete
- Painting
- Framing
- Carpentry
This does not happen every time – there are electricians who have a website because they’re technically savvy – they make their own website and describe basically the type of work that they do. Also, explain how long they’ve been in the business and been part of the community that they serve. Sometimes however, because birds of a feather know each other – a lot of their friends are contractors can why not put it on your website?
Because it not a good idea
Regardless, of how little of any flooring, concrete or painting or anything else you do – if it’s on your website you’re going to have an underwriting problem. This is not because you’re not company or use insured subcontractor’s it is because…. When your coverage was bound you are bound as an electrician not a general contractor. Basically, the definition of general contractor is someone who hires subcontractors and has no employees that equates to a labor cost that is not being charged for under general liability. Now we will be going over this entire weekend website versus reality so hopefully if you have time drop by tomorrow Saturday and we will try and explain this in its entirety.
