The cost of it all
Dallas Contractors General Liability Insurance: okay, here we are on a Tuesday and it’s 8:46 AM which means most every contractor is probably out the door. That is my way of saying I am really getting a late start. Today let’s go over a few things about the quote which apparently is much maligned/misunderstood and truly needs to be addressed for the reality is you (enter the name of your company here) will have exposures (risk) that has a lot to do with how much you will pay on your premiums and what takes place in case of a claim on this Dallas contractors general liability insurance.
Let’s talk price
To start…. There is a class code assigned to what a person does; as an example a framing contractor is going to have a certain amount of exposure according to mathematical equation that has been drawn over the years by the insurance companies collectively that says there’s going to be this much risk involved for this kind of exposure. There’s no great secret that electricians don’t have overspray and that painters don’t usually have electrical fires – there different and there is a different “rate” to the different kinds of work. (Rate is how much premium is being assigned to that particular exposure) there is a difference between the
- Plumber
- Concrete Worker
- Framer
- Handyman
- Remodeler
Now, what we need is some more clarification who you’re being charged for. The reason I’m saying this is because every day I talked to someone (that someone being a contractor) that will inevitably make this statement – “I don’t have any payroll I work alone” well, this may be true that you work alone still what is your – (“labor cost”) – Meaning yes the dreaded subcontractor.
The SubContractor
Now, you may be thinking well – they have their own company and I am not responsible for them. While here is a possibility that does may be exist – if for some reason the subcontractor who was working day (enter your company name here) hired and ultimately in case of a claim you could be named in a lawsuit and/or named as a claimant. Now, because I cannot tell the future I do want to remind you this is a made-up scenario and there is no guarantee that you will be named in a lawsuit are assigned is one of the parties negligent but I will go out on a limb here and say it’s just not impossible.
What this means
All the talk in the world is all fun and games until someone is served papers that says you have been sued by the person who hired you – and that is just the beginning because possibly there was a claim in our make-believe story – and in this story the homeowner whom you are working for paid $25,000 because of negligence of one of your subcontractors. The story could remain the same in a commercial work atmosphere regardless of commercial/residential let’s say this $25,000 was paid. So ask yourself a question – do you think the insurance company is going to pay this and just move on?

Well, I wrote this myself this morning and by looking at this you can probably tell that it was a really fast post. This morning I wrote this meaning this is my opinion my personal opinion and nothing more. The above is not based on any actual people it is a make-believe scenario therefore don’t put any credence in it as in this could happen to you – you and your company need to talk to your insurance agent about risk and how it is assigned.
