Weekend! well…..maybe
Dallas Contractors General liability insurance: Friday, April 03, 2015 – admittedly, working outside is preferable to an office, although I work in an office you must understand I am a baby boomer in my generation in general – well were just not as young these are used to be. With that said in the weekend upon us and I hope that you and your family going to be able to spend some time enjoying the fruits of your labor. Today, let’s talk about something we normally don’t discuss: that is the generality of Dallas contractors general liability insurance and stereo typically what is not covered.
Start at the start
Well, everyone has a first day that one point people are a rookie and you may be a contractor here in North Texas or Texas in general that has worked in construction for 20 years and today may be the first time you ever have applied for Dallas contractors insurance – general liability you may have been a
- Roofing Contractor
- Electrician
- Flooring Contractors
- Concrete Contractor
- Framer
- General Contractor
Now, there are many reasons why you want general liability other than the certificate requirements that you may need to adhere to and satisfy to get a particular contract. Now, the list above is not all exposures in the world but it’s a generalization meaning contractors in general.
Dallas Contractors Insurance
You may have a situation where you’re going to need a “COI” – a certificate of insurance so that you can complete a job – get paid for a job and remember although it may not be very likely there is a possibility of a claim. Also, the likelihood of needing general liability to pull a work permit on a particular job is gone pretty high in the last couple of years.
What may not be covered
Now, what is not covered is going to be things such as – it’s most likely an employee or subcontractor’s bodily injury is not going to be covered – meaning hurt on the job. Most of the time craftsmanship/quality of work is not going to be covered. If something goes wrong and that wrong was creative by an intentional act – intentional acts/damage there’s a good chance that will not be covered. Now it may seem like you’re being very vague here – but understand, insurance has changed greatly in the last five years and at the speed of Internet. Let me assure you the speed of Internet is fast. There are policies out there that do cover a small amount of craftsmanship and tools on the job – while that’s one policy and I don’t know how many types of policies are out there, but I can assure you I have not read them all meaning, I do not know there particular policy language.
The Good News
A quote is not always binding – because things pop up that become stumbling blocks such as your website, your website can be disastrous when it comes to your binding a general liability policy. That’s another story on another blog post which we are about to update here in the next week or so. The good news is a quote normally for the everyday guy is going to be fast very very fast.
